![]() top music and exceptional recording..14 years have passed from that ecxeptional recording.. But music sounds fresh and emotional and also sound in it's top range.. must listen.. must have!! Music sounds as both been composed and also improvised in the same way that Charles Mingus' music always sounds composed - I would say it's apparent that rather than the musicians improvising on a theme, there's a fairly tight structure within which there's a certain amount of freedom for each soloist.. Quite intense, rather brooding, a theme running through nearly all the tracks, but still accessible if you are prepared to listen.. Recording lying to very high standards, with warm and rich acoustic bass a feature.. The tone and atmosphere of this album is perfect.. it comprises every beautiful facet of jazz all in one package virtuosity, flair, subtlety, emotion, and advant-garde. It's all there. If you like Brad Mehldau, John Scofield, EST in the jazz world, and even the likes of (dare I say in the presence of jazz connosieurs) the music of Cinematic Orchestra, you're on to a winner no doubt. I also love the slightly European edge it has, with the accordion taking the stage and a healthy use of unmuted brass. All in all a tasteful, unpretentious yet somewhat quirky contribution..
