TRIBUTE TO MARKOS ALEXIOU

Pantelis Benetatos has been playing jazz piano for the last 15 years now having worked with many notable musicians not only from Greece (George Trantallidis, George Phillipidis, George Fakanas, Vassilis Rakopoulos) but international musicians as well (Ralph Peterson, Bobby Watson, Chuck Berry, Trilok Gurtu, David Lynch, Jimmy Cobb, Miles Griffin, and Tony Remy to name but a few) in festivals and music venues all over Greece. He has recurrently been a member of the following well-known Greek Jazz Bands: George Trantallidis Quintet, Jazz Workshop, Mode Plagal, Takis Barberis Quintet, New Edition and many more. ”InDuologue” is a musical dialogue between a Voice and a Double Bass that introduces you to an acoustic kind of jazz listening. The two interpreters blend their sounds in such a way that makes their music feel intimate and distinctive, almost as if it was directed to each listener personally.Their duo of voice and bass, according to vocalist Alexandra Lerta, “is a ‘quiet’ sound synthesis without too many ‘bells and whistles’ - a sound that goes straight to the point, straight to the heart, and leaves no room for anything redundant or inessential to be added by the players”. To emphasize this intimacy the album was recorded in a quiet chapel instead of a recording studio. The chapel allowed the sound of the bass to breathe and fully develop. It also allowed direct communication between the musicians, which SnipRecords regards crucial for good quality recording. The combination of the small intimate setting, with the lush acoustics of the chapel results in a distinctive listening experience

Timo Lassy – George Kontrafouris Special Duet.
Timo Lassy is one of the leading artists in the vivid Helsinki jazz scene. The composer and sax player was recently noted as a “Rising Star” in the veritable jazz bible Downbeat, and his quintet ensemble, the Timo Lassy Band, was dubbed “one of Europe’s sharpest bands” by The Sunday Times in the UK.
Hot on the heels of the fourth Lassy LP to date, “Live With Lassy” (Schema 2014), the band has taken their no-nonsense cooking session on the road with remarkable results. Constantly selling out shows in his native Finland, Lassy is on the verge of becoming a force to be reckoned with on the international jazz circuit as well. The Timo Lassy Band includes members of several hard-hitting and well-proven ensembles, most notably The Five Corners Quintet, the most successful Finnish jazz oufit to date and also the alma mater of Lassy himself. Live, the Timo Lassy Band excels in getting into the mood of hard- swinging jazz with gusto galore. The band is brimming with innovation, making this music very much “the art of now”.
In Tinos, Timo Lassy will be on stage next to George Kontrafouris, jazz pianist & organist with an international career and probably the leading and most restless figure of his generation on the Greek jazz scene.
