Sani Festival - Greek Variations 2014

Savopoulos at Sanni Fest

09 / AUG / 2014 --- “From Tsitsanis to Theodorakis”

by musicians of the orchestra «Mikis Theodorakis»

Venue: Sani Hill
Time: 09:30:00 - 11:00:00
General Entrance: 15€
Reserved Seat Ticket: 25€
Resort Guest ticket: 10€

Two separate, different worlds come together at this concert: the world of the 'patriarch' of rembetiko, Vassilis Tsitsanis (1915-1984) and the world of the globally acclaimed composer Mikis Theodorakis (b. 1925). Both served the popular music of their homeland, each in his own way and with his own musical 'tools'. However, their popular musical thoughts coincide at places. Mikis Theodorakis carved out a multifaceted musical career that covers almost the entire spectrum of the art of sound – but it was popular music that enabled him to directly communicate with Greeks throughout the world. Thus, the coexistence of the songs of these two great composers, as attempted in this original programme, does not appear to clash. On the contrary, when combined, the songs of Vassilis Tsitsanis and Mikis Theodorakis create an enchanting musical web,, a unique musical programme that can at once cause joy and emotion.

The timeless songs of the two composers that have already secured a place in our memories and hearts will be performed by four acclaimed singers: Vassilis Lekkas, Gerasimos Andreatos, Yiota Nega and Sofia Papazoglou. They will be accompanied by the 'Mikis Theodorakis' Popular Orchestra.

The 'Mikis Theodorakis' Popular Orchestra was founded in May 1997 by musicians-associates of Mikis Theodorakis who were connoisseurs of his work, aiming at promoting his work and striving to achieve their goal through concerts, performances, television appearances and album recordings.
