Monthly Meeting ACA at Andreas Pollakis

I had been wondering how Andreas and his spouse listen and enjoy music, as they seem to be very much immersed in the specific topic, to believe that these two people are as members worth very much admiring.

The amount of music listened to and the knowledge and background, not to mention the inclusion of a wonderful past with our hobby, positions Andreas as favorite to spend time with and listen to music with in ACA.

I remember when I first met Andreas, and I fully remembering that he was in every high end hall, event of any kind no matter the weather and time. An avid music aficionado with a keen sense of what is not his style and what is. I say this since the music within him comes from the spirit he lives and keeps to in his everyday life. His spouse as well is a very warm and concerning woman about society and music, but not in a shallow way at all. I saw that most people knew his worth but I had not seen it from day one.

The host tonight showed us exactly how he sees music, and how music lives. His home is his castle and everything was adorned with candles and essence wherever you turned, it was like being in wonderland, where everything was perfect and serene.

I then saw his system and thought that he was a crazy bird for even trying to create his own magic with the limited knowledge we all have. Everything was DIY almost, and it seemed that despite the amazing music he had chosen for the evening, dare I say the best collection of music at our events here in ACA that we had the chance to hear what looked like a piece of the past with a potential to dazzle the future.

The Listening...

I could hear a small hum in one of the speakers, stemming from the amplifier which at one point gave in to the sound pressure levels we were asking it to perform at, but that was part of the magic of the evening.

Having an amp blow, or for that matter ruining a cartridge, is something which we are very used to, you can’t experiment and believe you will not have hit and runs at times.

We all make mistakes and we all push technology and our own limits to the point where we want it to break, if for no other reason than to see how far something goes.

Curiosity kills the cat, and we as a group are a bunch of feline blooded hounds in the making.

This was so characteristic of the system at hand tonight. We heard some amazing music, some played well while the amp was still working and some crashed after, but that is all part of the beauty of going to a live organism, which in this case was a system built by hand, to fulfill the ear, body and soul.

In conclusion

Andreas is a deep person and despite his not so deep pockets he comes out with a passionate sound that is a spectacle in his eyes and an honour for us to see and hear.

I thank both him and his wife for a wonderful, dreamy evening of positive energy and basic human love, not only for music but for his fellow ACA members.

I would go back again and again just to live the essence of his musical spirit and sincere care for music.
God bless him.
