"I'm Appalled at the Way You Treat Your Readership"
Rabbi Fremer says: The Peter, Paul & Mary file comparison story has created quite an uproar. Most of you took it for what it was--an informal but reasonable comparison of two unidentified files that could have been the same or different. 79% of you thought they were different files. 21% though they were the same file posted twice.

Why I Hate The Felice Brothers' Cover of "This Magic Moment" in the Dell TV Commercial
The first time I heard that Dell spot the song cover made me cringe. I hated it! Hate! Hate! Hate! Look, if you love music, you can also hate music and I hate that cover!

The Pro-Ject Xtension10 Turntable - More Than a "Lifestyle" Product!
Just as moving downhill is easier than going up, scaling down an expensive design is far easier than building upon a modest one.Yet Pro-Ject, which began in1990 with a homely, grey/black Soviet-era Czech Republic-made “people’s ‘table”, has managed quite well to both upgrade its budget offerings and to produce mid-priced ‘tables of distinction.

Ending the Peter, Paul & Mary Mystery!
Thousands have read the story and more than one hundred of you have voted. No doubt had the story run longer, more would have participated but there's no need to continue because the results already speak for themselves and in fact did so early on.

New York City's 92nd Street "Y" Celebrates 50 Years of The Beatles in the USA
Peter Asher, Donovan, Billy J. Kramer and others will take part in an evening of intimate conversation on Thursday February 6th, 2014. 50 years earlier to the day The Beatles were preparing to leave London for their first visit to America.

Phono Preamplifier Voting Results and Files Identified!
On January 2nd analogplanet.com posted five 96/24 bit files, each containing the same minute’s worth of John Williams’ “Liberty Fanfare” performed by the National Symphonic Winds conducted by Lowell Graham excerpted from the album Winds of War and Peace originally issued in 1988 on Wilson Audio Specialties Records (W-8823) and used with permission.

International CES 2014 Wrap-Up
This year's CES wasn't one for the record books, though plenty of records were played and that was good. From the main convention site to the Venetian to T.H.E. Show at the Flamingo, the show was rather lackluster and attendance was off, mostly due to cold weather flight disruptions.

Simon Yorke Introduces a 45rpm-only Record Player!
Turntable manufacturer Simon Yorke just announced the limited edition S45 record player designed exclusively to play 45s and only 45s. As the press release says, the S45 "...will not play 12” long-playing records, compact discs or oven-ready pizzas, just singles."

The Kubotek Haniwa HCTR01 MkII-6T Green Marker Phono Cartridge
The moving coil cartridge advantage comes in great part due to its far lower moving mass. A relatively light-weight coil moves and reacts faster than a far heavier magnet. The lighter the coil, the less the mass.

"Uncle Meat"--Frank Zappa's Soundtrack Album to a Movie He Correctly Predicted You Would Never See
Frank Zappa’s sprawling 1969 soundtrack from a movie (he correctly supposes in a speech balloon) “….you will probably never get to see”, has ripened beautifully with age.

RTI Absolved: Shipping Snafu Caused These Abrasions
What caused the abrasions seen in the picture of the one of four abraded LPs in the Record Store Day Roy Orbison box set? Analogplanet asked the question and wondered whether it was industrial sabotage, sloppy handing or a shipping snafu. We now think we have an answer.

PS Audio's NuWave DSD/PCM Phono Converter Reviewed
This is a review of the NuWave Phono Converter's phono preamp section only. A review of the double DSD based A/D converter will follow soon.

"Original Classical LP Labels & Pressings (From the 1950's to the 1980's) Volume One THE EMI YEARS" By Lucas Stephanidis
While it's probably too late to order this book as a Christmas present for your vinyl and classical music loving significant other or friend, (or for yourself) since the book must be ordered from Greece, you could put an IOU in a box, wrap it nicely and your giftee will be happy to receive it.

Music Matters Returns to 33 1/3 and Some Mono For New Blue Note Reissues
Music Matters, Ltd. the jazz reissue label best known for its beautifully packaged, superb-sounding double 45rpm stereo jazz reissues cut by Kevin Gray from original analog master tapes recently announced a new 33 1/3 Blue Note series. While this may sound like "old news" to some, please listen up!

The Worst Print Ad Ever Created?
Look at this print ad for the Manila Hi-Fi Show I recently attended. It is a model of clarity, good taste and communicates effectively the event. Do you agree? I showed it to T.H.E. Show organizers and they mocked it and told me that their advertisements were excellent and that I don't know what I'm talking about.

The 78 Project Readies For Release Vinyl Edition of Volume 1 Of a One-Of-A Kind Recording Project
The 78 Project releases on January 28th, 2014, the Volume 1 Soundtrack album to the acclaimed web series that chronicles recordings made using a 1930's vintage Presto direct-to-acetate disc recorder similar to the one Alan Lomax used for his field recordings made between 1933 and 1942.

Ensemble HD "Live at the Happy Dog"
Chamber music at a corner dive? Not likely, but this Kickstarter financed double LP set bears witness to the unlikely success of what sounds like an impossible combination of Beethoven and beer at an ex-polka bar located in the recently gentrified Ohio's Gordon Square Arts District.
