Run Out Groove and APO Fill the Swamp With Tony Joe and Warren Storm
These two releases, one culled from a 2006 Rhino Tony Joe White compilation and the other a new one from APO (an Analogue Productions label) are naturals for a linked review.

Unreleased Art Blakey & The Jazz Messengers' Blue Note Just Coolin' Coming AAA on April 24th
Not sure what's more amazing: how many recordings Alfred Lion produced for Blue Note, or how many great ones have remained in the vaults. Over the past few years, numerous unreleased Blue Notes have finally been released and none are sub-par "leftovers".

AudioNautes Reissues Chesky Classic O Magnum Mysterium
What better time than now for the all-analog resurrection of this Chesky classic? Easter is three weeks away (though "Oh Great Mystery" is really about Christmas) and home lock down in a dreary time is here now.

Ken Micallef Interviews AnalogPlanet Editor Michael Fremer About Jazz LPs, RVG and Turntable Set-up
I think this video wraps up Ken Micallef's interview with me. It covers more jazz LP favorites, Rudy Van Gelder's legacy and plugs my turntable set-up DVD. It includes anecdotes, humorous asides, etc.

Mandy Moore's Silver Landings
I didn't know who Mandy Moore was when the press blurb arrived in my inbox. Incredible Boomer ignorance. What my eyes latched onto was the blurb's "laid down to tape" line. A web search quickly informed my Boomer/pop culture cluelessness! I should be embarrassed, but I don't embarrass easily.

ERC Announces Monk's Brilliant Corners From Original Mono Master Tape
Electric Recording Company announced today the forthcoming "true mono" reissue of Thelonious Monk's Brilliant Corners featuring Sonny Rollins due some time in April. ERC's costly limited edition releases usually quickly sell out. This one's still available but for how long?

Sometimes, Things Aren't How They Appear...
After watching the video showing the Revolv VTF gauge react to the Anna D stylus, SAT's Marc Gomez sent me this analysis: "Looking at your video of the scale reacting to the Anna I feel compelled to comment.

Pro-Ject's Tube Box S2 MM/MC Phono Preamp Beats the Built In
Pro-Ject Audio Systems is undoubtedly the king of budget friendly, entry-level, high performance analog components. A definite go-to for sub $1000 turntables and bang for your buck phono preamps. Founded in 1991 by Heinz Lichtenegger during the evil reign of the CD, they fought their way to vinyl success and made it!

The vertically integrated company--Germany's second largest turntable manufacturer-- owns its own factory, in which you'll see state of the art CNC machinery, "Teutonic" organization and extreme manufacturing and assembling efficiency.

AXPONA 2020 POSTPONED UNTIL AUGUST 7-9
AXPONA announced just now that it's moved the Western hemisphere's largest show from this coming April to August 7-9 at Chicago's Renaissance Schaumberg Hotel and Convention Center.

Ortofon 2M Blue Versus Audio Technica AT-VM95ML
More than a few emails have arrived over the last few weeks touting the sonic excellence of Audio-Technica's $169 AT-VM95ML dual moving magnet cartridge. The $236 Ortofon 2M Blue equipped Fluance RT85 was here for review so why not procure a VM95ML and do a direct comparison?

Joan Armatrading Back on From Intervention
Intervention's long delayed release of Joan Armatrading's eponymously titled third album is now set to ship this May. It's now available for pre-order on the Intervention Records website.

Analogplanet's Best Reissues of the Decade!
Here are our choices for the best reissues of the past decade. They include individual LPs, box sets and ongoing series. We decided to omit from the list re-mixes such as Abbey Road, because they are not strictly "reissues" as well as "newly found" older recordings such as John Coltrane's Blue World.

The Stooges' Fun House 50th Anniversary 15 LP Box Set Coming From Rhino
Rhino originally released this material in 1999 as a 7 CD box set, but to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the original Fun House release the label returned to the original tapes and Bernie Grundman cut lacquers directly from them for the original album and for the live concert LP. The outtakes are sourced from hi-res files.

Oswalds Mill Audio demoed yesterday (Feb. 27th) at its Brooklyn showroom the K3-- a brand new, more than 5 years in the planning and manufacturing direct drive turntable that aims to define "state of the turntable art".
