Review Explosion Summer/Fall 2019: Earl Sweatshirt, Tool, Rex Orange County, & Liam Gallagher
Review Explosion is a new AnalogPlanet feature covering recent releases for which we either don't have sufficient time to fully explore, or that are not worthy of it. Curated by AnalogPlanet contributing editor Malachi Lui, Review Explosion will focus on the previous few weeks' new releases as well as archival titles and reissues.)

The Beatles Singles Collection Cut Mostly From Original Singles Tapes
I have been assured by co-producer Guy Hayden that this 45rpm box was cut directly from TAPE and that whatever transfers were done (hence the credit) was done as they were for the AAA mono album box, to use as a reference before actual cutting in order to preserve the tapes.

Craft Records Reissues on Vinyl Creedence Clearwater Classics Green River and Willy and The Poorboys
Though you could argue that Bayou Country containing "Proud Mary" and "Born on the Bayou" was a better album, I'm going with Green River as a stronger, more consistent overall album (you remember albums, don't you?), which also had some hits like "Bad Moon Rising" (with it's refrain "there's a bathroom on the right"), "Lodi", which at the time made me wonder why Fogerty was writing about New Jersey and of course the title tune.

Beethoven Complete Works For Cello and Piano ( New: Source Clarification)
How the original single LP of cellist Fournier and pianist Gulda performing Beethoven's Cello Sonata in D (Deutsche Gramophon SLPM 138 083) ended up in my collection isn't clear to me but I can narrow it down to either my college Beethoven symphony music appreciation class professor, or to Duane, the classical music expert at Minuteman Records in Harvard Square.

From the Archives: Analog Corner #119
Here's more proof that sound quality--or its factual representation--is no longer on the radar screen of the mainstream press. I recently sent this letter to the Wall Street Journal's corrections editor: "Sarah McBride's assertion in today's lead story that satellite radio offers 'higher quality sound' than FM radio is demonstrably incorrect.

The Beatles The Singles Collection Arrives (REVISED 11/19/19)
I have been assured by co-producer Guy Hayden that this 45rpm box was cut directly from TAPE and that whatever transfers were done (hence the credit) was done as they were for the AAA mono album box, to use as a reference before actual cutting in order to preserve the tapes.

Resonance's 10 LP Hittin' the Ramp: The Early Years (1936-1943) Is a "Completist" The Nat King Cole Story Prequel
You know what they say about audiophiles: only interested in what sounds good, music comes in distant second place or they repeatedly play the same few records, etc. You've heard the bad raps. Yet here's a box set of vintage (read "old") recordings digitized and processed that's brought more inquiries into my inbox than many so-called "audiophile" recordings.

The UK Hi-Fi Show Live 2019 Complete Coverage!!
A hi-fi show at a racecourse? If the Warsaw show (coming up the weekend of November 8th-10th, 2019) can be successfully held at a football (soccer) stadium, why not have one at a racecourse? Especially the UK's premier horse racing venue, and home to Royal Ascot. The UK's largest and most iconic Grandstand is an innovative venue for a hi-fi show and, blessed with a dedicated electricity substation, is capable of delivering great sounds once the exhibitors have tackled the room acoustics.

Rainbo Records Shutters After Pressing Records For 80 Years
Rainbo Records' President Steve Sheldon announced the other day that after pressing records for 80 years the company would close and liquidate its assets--and not because of a business slowdown. Quite the opposite as everyone knows.

Pro-Ject's $899 X1: Best Under $1000 Turntable Package? (updated 10/29/19)
Pro-Ject's Heinz Lichtenegger is not shy about expressing his contempt for el-cheapo turntables coming from China and elsewhere. He thinks these mediocre-sounding turntables ruin the sonic experience for a young generation getting into vinyl.

Wally Tools Returning And Some N.O.S. Available Now!
At the San Francisco Audiophile Society meeting late September where I appeared and played records for a few hours (and had a blast), J.R. Boisclair was selling what remained of Wally Malewicz's "Wally Tools".

The Beatles Announce New Limited Edition All-Analog 7" Vinyl Singles Box With a Twist
The Beatles just announced The Beatles: The Singles Collection, a limited edition, collectible box set containing 23 180-gram vinyl singles cut by Sean Magee from the original mono and stereo singles mix tapes. Between 1962 and 1970 The Beatles released 22 singles.
