"Bang!, The Bert Berns Story" Documentary Starts Streaming Today on Apple Music
Cross "Goodfellas" with the hippest Ken Burns PBS mid-sixties New York music business documentary you've never seen and then anchor it with a songwriter, producer, record label executive biography that were it not true would have been difficult for any fiction writer to invent. That's the heart of "Bang! The Bert Berns Story".

Video Showing Setting Stylus Rake Angle Using a Digital USB Microscope
This video shows you how to use a digital USB microscope to set stylus rake angle (SRA) to 92 degrees, which is considered to be the best angle to start with, followed by adjusting "by ear". Why 92 degrees? It's all explained in an article you can download as a PDF file at this analogPlanet.com link.

Swedish Analog Technologies Announces Two New Pickup Arms for 2018
Swedish Analog Technologies today announced two new pickup arms to be introduced "...in the first quarter of 2018". The photo accompanying this news item is of the original SAT Pickup Arm because no photos of the new arms were provided at this time. In fact, this photo taken from the company's website is of an earlier version than the one currently in production.

"Music for Viola and Cello" Reissued by The Electric Recording Company
Musical cults in the rock world can't compare to what goes on in classical music--as anyone who's perused some of the used record prices on popsike.com surely knows. That's certainly true of the late, legendary cellist Jacqueline Du Pre.

The Judee Sill Cult Continues, This Time at 45rpm
The turbulent and tragic Judee Sill story provides the ingredients from which musical cult followings are made: two critically acclaimed Asylum albums (she was the first artist David Geffen signed to the label) that despite great expectations sold poorly, a fight with Geffen over lack of support after which the label dropped her, a return to heroin addiction, and a drug overdose death in 1979 at age 35.

Well Then, Should You Buy a MM-Only Phono Preamp If You Are Using a MM Cartridge?
Way back in May AnalogPlanet published a feature titled Should You Buy a MM-Only Phono Preamplifier if You Are Using a MM cartridge. There you could listen to each and "blind" vote for your favorite.

"Bang, The Bert Berns Story" Documentary Coming to Apple Music October 24th
Sometimes the press release says it all. This is one of those times: "Music meets the mob in this biographical documentary, narrated by Steven Van Zandt, about the life and and career of Bert Berns, "the most important songwriter and record producer from the '60s that you've never heard of."

Mack Avenue to Re-Release "Oscar With Love" Including 5 LP Edition

Johnny Cash's "Unearthed" Collection Returns as Monolithic Nine-LP Vinyl Box Set, November 3rd
AnalogPlanet doesn't normally post verbatim press releases but in this case it just makes sense, with this additional information: The original Rick Rubin produced Cash albums we know and love on vinyl were not sourced from tape. In fact given how some were remotely recorded it's not likely they were analog recordings in the first place, though rumors fly that some were but the tapes were not used because they were never assembled into cutting masters.
