What Do You Want From Your Hi-Fi?
A simple question. A simple question, and one that one could assume has but one answer. But it doesn't. I want my hi-fi to make me feel, through music, the way I feel when I listen to the life going on around me.

For those who care for a splash of colour, there's NOCS. For a more unusual form factor and a greater potential for high/er-end performance (with optional room correction), we look to Genelec. DJ stores like Just Music don't sell passives. It's actives or nowt.
Is MQA "Bad For Music"? Linn Thinks It Is
"But with the MQA approach, we have the worst kind of middleman: solving a problem that has already been, or could be, solved by free and open alternatives, and yet expecting--no, demanding--to be paid again and again for contributing nothing of value. CANJAM NYC 2017
Outside of RMAF, this was my first CANJAM. While I am not a headphone kinda guy, I am someone who enjoys seeing people enjoy themselves, especially when its all sorts of people. In this regard, CANJAM ranks right up there with Munich High End, my favorite hi-fi show in the entire world!

Hold the phone! In my review of the Sound Galleries SGM music server I said: I recently had a few friends over for a listening and barn orchestra party. John DeVore and Stephen Mejias arrived just before noon and we spent the better part of the day into the early night listening to, and at times playing along with1, music from the system.

There are times when I think life is best described by picturing countless endlessly tall raw metal monoliths with no air or space between them, rubbing up and down, slow. A snail's pace slow and we, the observer, are the lubricant. It's at these times I enjoy a soundtrack to that movie and Emptyset's Borders, released on Thrill Jockey last month, works.

No matter which side of the fence (wall?) you sit on, at least some part of Bandcamp's message should resonate: Like 98% of U.S. citizens (including the President), I am the descendant of immigrants--my great-grandparents came to America from Russia and Lithuania as teenagers and worked in sweatshops until they were able to afford to bring the rest of their families over.
Welcome to Roon 1.3
1.3 is big. With it comes a number (as in a lot) of new features, greater hardware compatibility, and improved performance. I'm now running 1.3 and the only hitch in my giddy-up was I had to restart my NAS in order for 1.3 to see my music files. Yes, that caused a brief moment of panic especially when Roon rebooted itself as part of the update and the first screen I saw said, "This album has been deleted." It hadn't been. Whew!

Sound Galleries SGM 2015 Music Server
To my mind, there will be three main types of response to this review: 1) $16k for a computer? Are you nuts? 2) I wonder if I can get a large % of this performance for a lot less $ 3) I'd like to listen to the SGM in my system. My guess is you know who you are before reading any further.
