One week from tomorrow I board a cozy people mover en-route to Las Vegas, Nevada and the hi-end orgy that is CES. The BIG question on every show goer's mind this year--Is less really more?

Was 2016 a good year for music? I dunno...I think so. While I did attempt to stay plugged in, it's just too much. Not sure if it was a good year for music in general. For me, the musical output far out-shined most other developments of the past 12 months.

December is my favorite month for discovering great new music, mainly because so many Best of 2016 lists are published. I discover dozens of overlooked and previously unknown albums, and for me that is the real point of publishing lists like this; not to create a hierarchical ranking, but as a way of sharing great music that you might not have heard and will come to cherish and be inspired by in the months and years to come.

The SOtM sMS-1000SQ Windows Edition comes with AudiophileOptimizer. See Steve Plaskin's review to learn the ins and outs of AO. I'll just add/agree that it makes this machine sound better, too. The review SOtM unit is the Digital Version, meaning there's no DAC inside. There's also no internal storage, you can add music storage (up to 4TB).
