2nd Edition

Lovely Recordings Hosted by Paul Calvitto
The following Lovely Recordings submission represents a small sample of my personal varied taste in music. Hopefully some of the words sprinkled below will be enough to entice some of the readers to further investigate the albums, better yet just let the music speak for itself. Enjoy!

Download of the Week: Mannequin Pussy
Romantic is Mannequin Pussy's second album and clocks in at 17 minutes (dammit!). But no matter since for that 17 minutes it's mostly all high-energy poppunk gnash.

Sonic.build Sonic DAC
The question is: Is saving about $140 worth your time? How much time? All told, I'd estimate roughly 1/2 hour (no soldering required) for the piecing together the hardware. Longer if you take a beer break, shorter if you're all business. Loading up the OS and Roon Bridge software on the micro SD-card takes some familiarity with Linux command line coding.

A Trip To Systems Two
I made the rainy-day trip into the heart of Brooklyn where I met composer and Stereophile contributor Sasha Matson and John Atkinson, Stereophile's Editor in Chief, for an analog mastering session. Don't worry, digits were also involved.

Lovely Recordings Hosted by John R. Miller
Great music is more than just the music. Doesn't your favorite music bring back great memories? When you obtained it or first heard it? Today's favorites are those with special memories.

Download of the Week: Jeremy Bible
Talk about perfect timing. Stephen Mejias gave me the heads up on the beautiful Limited Edition USB Drive version of Jeremy Bible's minimalist opus Music For Black Holes, a 4-hour journey through the glass, darkly. It arrived on Tuesday and I've listened all the way through and part way through again.

New York Audio Show 2016
Michael Lavorgna reports live from the Park Lane Hotel in NYC!

1st Edition

Lovely Recordings Hosted by Patrick Burnette
I've loved music since I was five and proudly taking a tiny plastic record player everywhere I went (I think it had to "disappear" eventually to preserve the relative sanity of the adults around me). I wasn't especially attuned to quality of sound until about fifteen years ago and am still a piker in terms of equipment and analysis compared to most of the posters and readers here.

Download of the Week: Jenny Hval
I haven't had time to take it everything that Hval gives us on Blood Bitch. There's something here for the body and mind; beautiful music, beautiful voices, and a lot that wants to mess with (toy with?) things we may not want to think about or acknowledge. My favorite kind of music.

Ayre Acoustics QX-5 Twenty Digital Hub
In This Corner... Weighing in at a fit 16 lbs. with 10 digital inputs and balanced outputs stands the Roon Ready and firmware upgrade-able Ayre QX-5 Tweeeenty! And in this corner, piles of stuff.

Lovely Recordings Hosted by JDG
I love music. Good music is good music regardless of genre. The following is what comes to my mind when thinking of lovely recordings. All are on Tidal. The following are good music whether on HiFi or AM radio. I think these are unique from things previously listed. If not, I missed something and apologize.

Download of the Week: Alsarah & The Nubatones
"World Music". As with most things, it depends on one's perspective. I find the concept of "World Music" kinda appalling but maybe I'm too sensitive. Alsarah & The Nubatones Manara is a wondrous record. Not because it's not of this World, rather because it is musically engaging. Deeply so.

The Musica Pristina Virtuoso Network DAC
Musica Pristina's Virtuoso Network DAC is a Roon Ready DAC that takes advantage of Roon Lab's RAAT (Roon Advanced Audio Transport) protocol technology for bit perfect network streaming over Ethernet and WiFi networks. RAAT supports "all relevant audio formats today and for the foreseeable future." Musica Pristina is one of the earliest companies to support Roon's RAAT with a DAC that utilizes this new network protocol.

UpTone Audio UltraCap LPS-1
"The world's first bank-switching, microprocessor-controller, ultracapacitor-based, ultra-low-noise external linear power supply has arrived!" I purchased the UpTone Audio UltraCap LPS-1 from the UpTone website and it arrived last week. While this is a review, it is unusual in those two regards.
