Select a VPI Prime Turntable And Make A Great Choice
The Prime is the first turntable designed by Mat Weisfeld. What that means in this case is more a series of smart executive decisions rather than a "from scratch" effort (for you vegetarians, the headline incorporates all three USDA grades of meat).

Producer Joe Boyd's New Kickstarter Project
Legendary veteran record producer Joe Boyd (The Incredible String Band, Richard Thompson, John Martyn, R.E.M. Fairport Convention, Nick Drake, etc.) recently announced a new Kickstarter Project you should be aware of.

The Record Revirginizer Record Cleaning System
Surely you've seen the YouTube guy who uses wood glue to clean records. He brushes it on and when it's dry, he peels off the glue and the record gets a "facial peel."

AnalogPlanet Editor Speaks At Barnes & Noble's August 13th "Vinyl Day" Event
Saturday August 13th was "Vinyl Day". Barnes & Noble celebrated with events and guest speakers at many of their stores nationwide. Analogplanet editor Michael Fremer was invited to speak at the Paramus, New Jersey store and a looped segment of his DVD "It's a Vinyl World After All" played in all of the stores along with other video material.

Electric Recording Company Releasing Prestige Jazz Titles!
The Electric Recording Company (ERC) just announced a Prestige monophonic jazz reissue series sourced from the original master tapes licensed from label owner Concord Music Group. The four titles are (in order of release date)...

Jack White "Unplugged" Double LP Coming September 9th
The 26 track album features alternative versions, mixes and previously unreleased recordings from The White Stripes, The Raconteurs and solo material, all remastered for this compilation, which Third Man calls "the essential Jack White songwriting collection.

MPS Reissues '70s Era Jazz Classics AAA
The German MPS label has just released five excellent jazz albums originally released in the early 1970s under the supervision of noted German audio journalist and record producer Dirk Sommer. All have been mastered AAA from the original master tapes by mastering engineer Christoph Stickel, who was responsible for the Oscar Peterson box set Exclusively For My Friends.

Electric Recording Company Announces Next Leonid Kogan Reissue
The Electric Recording Company announced today a third Leonid Kogan reissue. ERC as it's known, reissues only from analog tape using a restored all-tube playback and cutting chain, reproducing the cover art with startling accuracy to the original. Most of what ERC reissues are long out of print, highly collectible and expensive to buy recordings.

The Pristine Vinyl ViVac RCS2 "Thread Type" Record Cleaning Machine
If there's a better looking record cleaning machine than Pristine Vinyl's ViVac RCS, I've not seen it. This "thread" type record cleaning machine is also compact and easy to use once you get the "hang" of it. It's also superbly built and logistically, equally well thought out.

Were Approximately 75,000,000 LP Records Pressed Worldwide in 2015?
I received a spread sheet earlier in the year estimating how many records would be pressed in 2016. The total was well in excess of 80,000,000 (yes, eighty million). But, because it was an estimate I didn't want to run with it. The spread sheet lists all of the pressing plants worldwide that you've heard of and many, many others you've never heard of.

"All Things Must Pass" The Tower Records Story Coming to DVD September 13
"All Things Must Pass", the must-see documentary on the rise and fall of the Tower Records chain, comes to DVD September 13th through MVD. No record fan should miss this documentary that covers the rise of Tower Records (made $1 billion in 1999) to its declaration of bankruptcy in 2006.

"Who Can I Be Now?" 13 LP David Bowie Box Set Coming in September
The second David Bowie box set centered around his so-called "American Period" ships in September. It includes remastered editions of Diamond Dogs, David Live (the original 2 LP mix and the 2005 mix on 3 LPs), Young Americans, Station to Station (original mix and Harry Maslin 2010 mix), Live Nassau Coliseum '76 (2 LPs), (single versions and non-album B-sides re-mastered) and The Gouster a previously unreleased on LP early version of Young Americans.

The Even More Amazing ifi Micro iPhono 2 MM/MC Phono Preamplifier
While the new iPhono 2 appears on the outside to be identical to the original iPhono, reviewed back in 2012 on analogplanet.com, don't let the similar appearance fool you: the iPhono 2 is a completely new and vastly improved phono preamplifier--and the original was already plenty good.

Joe Jackson Reissues From Intervention Records
Joe Jackson's "angry young man" stance came late in the cycle and so at the time was less than fully convincing. Elvis and Graham had already been there and done that. The picture of Jackson on the back cover of his debut Look Sharp (IR-005) just wasn't convincing.

Levin Introduces Stylish Stylus Brush
It's not stiff enough to "scrub' dirt from your stylus like the stiff bristled ones do that come with some cartridges--especially those that as you to not use liquids containing alcohol because the stylus is bonded to the cantilever, but for casual cleaning of "dust ball" type stuff it works well, plus of course it looks great.Electric Recording Company Announces Next Leonid Kogan Reissue
