What A Difference A Cable Makes
This is not a review. Consider it more of an appreciation. This story began at Munich High End 2015 in the Sound Galleries room: "Do you have a favorite room at the show so far?" asked Geoff Armstrong as I sat in his room on the last day of the show. "Yea, this one." I replied. That room has stuck in my mind ever since.

Lovely Recordings Hosted by Richard Crimi (Part 2)
This round of recordings are things that I discovered in one way or another from Tidal. Either the artists were brand new to me or ones I've known about and rediscovered. And then there a few notable mentions that friends pointed me to.

Download of the Week: The Wailers
Yea, The Wailers. They changed to "Bob Marley & The Wailers" soon hereafter. What I'm talking about, and highly recommending for every fan of lovely recordings, is Catch A Fire (Deluxe Edition). What makes it "Deluxe" and highly recommended is this is a two-disc set; disc 1 is the previously unreleased album as originally recorded and produced by Bob Marley & The Wailers, dubbed the "Jamaican Version". Disc 2 is the version we all know and love. The thing is, I love the "Jamaican Version" more.

Electrically Isolate Your Networked Audio
I've been thinking about this for years. Literally. I've had any number of people ask, "Have you tried using a Fiber Media Converter?" And I always said, "No, but I plan to." Now I can say, "Why yes, I have tried this and it works wonders."

Neil Young's Pono Takes 5
From the (crazy) horse's mouth: We have some news that we want to share with you. One of our key infrastructure partners - Omnifone - has been acquired by a large company. An impact of this purchase is that all Omnifone's supply relationships are being terminated, effectively immediately.

Deezer Launches In US! (yawn)
But if you want their CD-quality streaming service, Deezer Elite, you can only get it through Sonos (sigh). So what are we getting from Deezer? Another $9.99/mo. 320kbps lossy streaming service (there's no free tier for US customers).

Lovely Recordings Hosted by Jim Sedaikis
As not to repeat Michael Manousselis selections of Lovely Recordings where I enjoy many of the same recordings on a daily basis, I've chosen to go the fun route. These recordings certainly won't be played for critical listeners on expensive rigs but I definitive enjoy them in my car or listening on head-phones riding the subway, a fun factor of 10.

Intel NUC & sonicTransporter: A Tale Of Two Mini Computers Running Roon Core
If you've been following Roon's development, you know that you need to run Roon Core on either a computer or a NAS. Since I already own a NAS, which is under-powered for running Roon Core, I thought I'd explore the world of mini computers by reviewing two; an Intel NUC and a sonicTransporter i5 (sT). Why two? To see if there's any difference.

Resources for Buyers, Beginners, and the Curious:
Are you looking for advice on which DAC to buy? Or a new new server or streamer? A great place to being that search is our Greatest Bits.

1st Edition

Lovely Recordings Hosted by Carla Stone
My first is the original soundtrack to the movie Dead Man starring Johnny Depp. My reason for love-love-loving it is because even if I didn't know that Neil Young was playing, I would have recognized his style and KNEW w/out a doubt that it was him!

Is Apple Not Acquiring Tidal?
According to Ben Sisario of The New York Times, Apple is not buying Tidal. Seeing as Sisario covers streaming, and more, for the Times, I'd imagine his highly-placed sources are, well, highly placed. Time will tell.

Is Apple Acquiring Tidal?
Not yet, but they are reportedly talking about it according to the Wall Street Journal and anonymous sources "familiar with the matter." Here's my take--this is either really good news or really bad news.

Download of the Week: John Prine
I follow Sturgill Simpson on Facebook. While that sentence kinda gives me the creeps, it's one of the more useful followings as I get concert announcements, since Ticketmonster is in the loop I never actually get tickets, and other news.

Sonore by Simple Design microRendu
I like simple. I appreciate uncomplicated. Yet I write about computer audio. I also listen to music every day for most of the day so I'm very much interested in the quality of that experience. I've been waiting years for these things to come together and they finally have.

It's Official: People Can Hear High-Res
The AES has just published a peer-reviewed paper by Dr. Joshua D. Reiss titled "A Meta-Analysis of High Resolution Audio Perceptual Evaluation" which concludes: "The overall conclusion is that the perceived fidelity of an audio recording and playback chain can be affected by operating beyond conventional levels."

Roon Server Now Runs On NAS!
I like simple, as you'll read in Thursday's review of the (stunning) Roon Ready Sonore microRendu with an Intel NUC acting as Roon Server. But running Roon Server directly on a NAS? That's even simpler. Less parts! Pinch me.

Lovely Recordings Hosted by Alan Sherman
I listen to a lot of different genres of music. Jazz, jazz fusion, blues, rock, American, folk, and bluegrass fill up my music collection. Some of my favorite music, however, is music that doesn't fit any category. Three of my favorite albums are older albums by genre busting musicians that play with other genre busting musicians.
