2nd Edition

The Barn: The Final Version
Our barn's overall interior dimensions are roughly 35' x 45' x 12. My listening/work space is now 17' x 35'. These final dimensions were accomplished by moving well over 100 boxes and bins and various pieces of furniture out of the barn, and then once everything was rearranged, back in.

Q&A With Mike Moffat, Schiit Audio
Schiit Audio is well-known among audiophiles as a company that delivers well-liked, well-loved?, products at affordable prices. Mike Moffat along with Jason Stoddard are the men behind Schiit, each having a long and storied hi-fi history. Mike Moffat generously agreed to take part in this Q&A, which I hope will give you a better understanding of the company's products and their attitude, which is anything but...

Lovely Recordings: Hosted By Andras Szamek

PS Audio NuWave DSD DAC
PS Audio's new NuWave DSD DAC has taken some engineering cues from the company's much-loved DirectStream DAC (see review). While the NuWave does not house the same FPGA-based processing as found in its larger and more costly sibling, it does house a complex programmable logic device (CPLD), a device that sits between a programmable logic device (PAL) and a field programmable gate array (FPGA) in terms of complexity.

Stereophile Reports Proof of High-Rez Audibility Over CD-Quality
For me, the entire high-rez "debate" is of little interest. The fact of the matter is I own and enjoy high-res recordings so from that perspective, which is the one I value most, reading or listening to people going on about how they didn't hear a difference or how I can't hear a difference is irrelevant.

Qobuz Saved!?
Good News! Qobuz was put in receivership last month and given until November 16th to find an investor or shut down. That deadline was extended due to offers put on the table and things have shaken out to reveal two potential buyers with two real offers. The Commercial Court in Paris will make its final decision regarding these offers on December 29th, and if all goes well, Qobuz will come out alive and well.

Google Announces High-Res Support for Chromecast Audio
Thanks to reader Stephen D. for the heads up on this oh-so-interesting news!

AudioStream's Best Albums of 2015
As you probably know, I post a Download Of The Week every Friday. What you may not know is this is one of my favorite features on AudioStream because it's the reason we're here--music. I always enjoy reading other "Best of..." music lists so I thought I'd put one together.

Shunyata Research Helps Save Lives
Some people dismiss power products in hi-fi out of hand. One argument I've heard suggests that it's just plain silly to stick an expensive power cable at the end of a long line of cheap power delivery. Shunyata has just offered up a press release and short video that help dispel that myth while also offering measured proof of their power products efficacy.

Lovely Recordings: Hosted by Glen Newdick
Well thank you for helping me from a digital nothing to finding so much in the streaming word through Tidal. I'm setting up my first hard drive sourced digital music system thanks primarily to your site and help from others. I've been listening to music primarily on vinyl for most of my 50 years so I thought I would share some of the music that moves me with your readers.

Download of the Week: Sturgill Simpson
Back in college in Vermont I had a few, and I mean a few, cassettes in my painting studio that were on near infinite repeat including a Hank Williams compilation and Sonny Rollin's Freedom Suite. A decade or more before college back home in NJ, we had an "uncle" who wasn't my uncle who dressed up like a cowboy and sung and strummed Hank Williams' tunes and C&W classics in smoky bars.

T+A MP 2000 R DAC/Network Client + PA 2000 R Integrated Amplifier
0.5Hz – 300kHz. That's the stated frequency response for the T+A PA 2000 R integrated amp. Add < 0.001% total harmonic/intermodulation distortion and a 105/109dB signal to noise ratio (unweighted/A-weighted) and it appears as if T+A's theories have been applied rather successfully, on paper.

Tidal + MQA = Hi-Res Streaming in 2016?
What Hi-Fi? has reported that Tidal hi-res streaming using Meridian's MQA is a done deal in their post "Tidal to launch hi-res audio streaming in 2016". AudioStream confirmed with Tidal's strategic partnership manager Pal Bratelund that this is certainly the plan, and in the works, but the real deal is "not confirmed".
