Download of the Week: Richard Dawson
Subverted folk blues from Newcastle upon Tyne's Richard Dawson. His guitar, barely keeping the feedback at bay, is raucous and rowdy, his vocals barely keeping time and tune, tell strange tales of the ordinary. Together they make for a solitary voice and vision.

Sonos Play:5, Play:1, Sub, and Bridge
Do you watch TV? Sports maybe? If so, you've probably spotted one of the Sonos commercials. White immaculate rooms are suddenly filled with liquid color, with flowers, or with paint spatters until the rooms are transformed. By music. Cool. And its cool for a few reasons; the message, the presentation, and the fact that a hi-fi company can afford to advertise on network TV during high profile/price sporting events. I'd imagine that Sonos is the only company to come through AudioStream to be in a position to pull that off.

Download of the Week: Aphex Twin
Sometimes I'm in playful mood and I want my music to match. Aphex Twin's latest Syro (Warp), his first album since 2001’s Drukqs, is about as seriously playful as they come. Richard D. James is a master of sounds both analog and eclectic and there's a palpable sense of sheer joy in the mix. Refreshing.

Is Free On-Demand Album Streaming Fair?

Sony May Jump on the Swift Boat Away From Streaming
According to the Wall Street Journal, Sony is re-thinking "its support for free, advertiser-supported online music after U.S. pop star Taylor Swift pulled her music from Spotify, the popular digital streaming service."

Swift v. Spotify Continued
Spotify CEO Daniel Ek came out last week claiming the Spotify service was on track to pay Swift $6M over the next 12 months in fees. In response, Swift's label boss, Scott Borchetta claimed that actual US sales figures were just under $500k. So whose numbers are right?

Where's My Pono Player?
As an official Pono Kickstarter backer, I'm [im]patiently awaiting my Patti Smith Artist Signature Series Pono Player which was promised for an October delivery. Well, it's no longer October and I am still Pono-less.
