Beach Boys Reissues From Master Tapes to Ready to Ship
The Beach Boys reissue project from Analogue Productions has been years in the making. Some of the mono records go on sale this Friday, December 16th. The process from master tape to finished record, packaged, boxed and ready for shipping is shown in a series of videos that make their world debut here on analog planet.

Watch Michael Fremer "Roast" Chad Kassem at L.A. and Orange County Audiophile Society Gala
Chad Kassem was given the Los Angeles and Orange County Audiophile Society's Founders Award at the group's annual Gala on Sunday December 7th, 2014. President Bob Levi asked Chad who he most wanted to introduce him at the ceremony and he chose analogplanet.com editor, Michael Fremer (me).

Bruce Springsteen: The Album Collection Vol. 1 1973-1984 Reviewed
On the analogplanet we greet with great enthusiasm news of a carefully considered reissue project like this, but clearly that’s not the case elsewhere. While poking around the Internet looking for background information I came upon a bizarre and surprising series of comments on, of all places Rolling Stone magazine’s website.

Bill Evans The Complete Village Vanguard Recordings, 1961
If you already own Sunday at The Village Vanguard and Waltz For Debby you have two album's worth of material from that magical afternoon and evening of June 25, 1961 that the producer Orrin Keepnews deemed worthy of releasing.

Ellington Masterpieces A Record That Belongs In Every Record Collection
The Internet has diminished the number of "record fairs" but there still are some. When I go to "record fairs" l like to "play against type". If I see a vendor who looks like Elvis Presley (and there is/was one), I know his 50s rock records are going to be good but expensive so I'd rather rummage through the boxes of $1 records he's put on the floor under his table. That's where he puts the "junk" about which he knows nothing.

Another Listen to Music Hall's MMF 11.1 Turntable
Under most circumstances yes. The turntable arrives, you unbox it, and following the instructions, you set it up. Simple enough. However, in this case the turntable arrived at my door in the hands of Roy Hall himself. No box. No instruction manual.

Joni Mitchell's Hejira Reissued AAA on 180g Vinyl
Not that it’s any of my business, but I was disappointed reading that Joni Mitchell had nixed Taylor Swift’s playing her in a biopix. “All you’ve got is a girl with high cheekbones” she’s reported to have said.

Second Line Funk! Brass Band Compilation Will Get You Up and Dancing!
This double LP compilation pressed on "tie dyed" colored vinyl includes previously released Mardi Gras Records recordings from the seven brass bands featured on this surprisingly entertaining set.

A Lego Turntable?
From Mixmag.net: someone in Korea has built a working LEGO turntable and tone arm. Amazing.

Neil Young "Ditch Trilogy +" LP Box Set Coming For Black Friday RSD This image is of a Counterfeit!
Note: the sticker on the genuine box set does not have "Times Fades Away". The Neil Young master tapes for this second box set were sitting in Chris Bellman's mastering suite last winter when I visited and interviewed Bernie Grundman about the Blue Note reissues, some of which were originally digitized at BGM Mastering and some of which were cut to lacquer by Chris.

A Current Affair: The Intriguing MR Labs VERA 20 MC Phono Preamplifier
The compact, two piece VERA 20 Phono Preamplifier from MR Labs may look more like a piece of medical technology and less like high performance audio gear, but don’t let its plain looks deceive you.

Led Zeppelin File Identities Revealed
For those taking the time to listen to the two posted files in the Led Zeppelin III review....

The World's Greatest Artists Sing The Songs of Paul McCartney: What Could Possibly Go Wrong?
The producer Ralph Sall had an idea ten years ago or so: why not get some of the greatest musical talents of our time to pay tribute to Sir Paul McCartney by having them cover his songs? What could possibly go wrong?

Read "The Long Play" by Colette LaBouff Published in The Morning News
A reader forwarded a link to a story by Colette LaBouff published in The Morning News, "a magazine of essays, art, humor and culture" that I'm 100% certain you will enjoy reading. The publisher has generously granted us permission to provide the link.

Bruce Springsteen "The Album Collection Vol. 1 1973-1984"--First Look
Legacy's long awaiting Bruce Springsteen vinyl box set arrived so analogplanet.com editor Michael Fremer unboxed it with the camera rolling. Have a look...

Led Zeppelin III Tones Down the "Heavy"
The third Led Zeppelin album has its heavy moments as on the banshee scream opener "Immigrant Song" but most often the pace is faster, the grooves lighter and at times it's downright celebratory.

Science Shows There's Only One Real Way to Listen to Music
Here's a link to a story you probably will enjoy. Note the angry, bitter and occasionally ignorant comments from "those people".

HDtracks Adds Vinyl Store
Jimmy Durante (some younger readers may need to look him up) used to say "Everybody's gotta get into the act!" and when it comes to vinyl, he was correct! It's sold at Whole Foods at Urban Outfitters, Target and other unlikely vinyl venues.
