RMAF 2012
The Rocky Mountain Audio Fest 2012 kicks off Friday, October 12 and runs for just three days. I say just three days because there are 160 rooms filled with gear from over 300 companies. That's about eight minutes per room not counting hallway time, gab time, photo time, note-taking time and let me see what else...oh yea, listening to music. Of course one person cannot completely cover RMAF 2012 so I've decided to try a new approach.

Wadia Digital 121Decoding Computer Follow Up
A number of readers asked a very relevant question after reading my initial review of the Wadia Digital 121Decoding Computer--how abouti its preamp? And as with the Mytek review, my answer was, good question. Armed with the Pass Labs INT-30A which allows you to bypass its passive preamp stage, I put the Wadia 121 to the preamp test.

What Is Your Digital Music Library Worth? The Pending ReDigi Case
ReDigi, "The Pre-Owned Digital Marketplace" is being sued buy EMI for copyright infringement. In its claim against ReDigi, EMI is asking for $150,000 for each song from the EMI catalog that they claim ReDigi re-sold illegally.

AcousticPlan DigiMaster DAC
Just the other day, I was reflecting on the number of components I have acquired from local dealers, or purchased after reading a series of reviews that pronounced the component as being state-of-the-art in performance. Upon first listening to the component in my system, I would be in sonic ecstasy for the first thirty minutes noting the exceptional detail or impactful bass I was hearing.

Mytek Digital Stereo192-DSD DAC Follow Up
A number of readers asked a very relevant question after reading my initial review of the Mytek Stereo192-DSD DAC--how about its preamplifier? And my response was--excellent question I will report back.

Q&A with Charles Hansen of Ayre Acoustics
Ayre Acoustics makes a complete line of electronics including amplifiers, preamplifiers, integrated amplifiers, disc players, DACs, ADCs and more. Our focus today will be on their digital side and specifically look at issues that affect file-based playback.

Further Thoughts on Neil Young's Pono
If we put all of the pieces of this unfolding Pono puzzle together--24/192 source files, portable proprietary Pono players, and from themypono.com site's About page (although this text has since been deleted), "Large home systems and other configurations of Pono are currently being presented by Meridian Audio, among others to be announced"--what does it add up to?

Q&A with Cookie Marenco of Blue Coast Records
Blue Coast Records is one of a few companies to have fully embraced Direct Stream Digital (DSD) recording and delivery. Five-time Grammy nominated producer/engineer Cookie Marenco is the Founder of Blue Coast Records and we recently exchanged some emails and had a conversation about the increasing visibility of DSD in audiophile circles in part sparked by the introduction of the Mytek Stereo 192-DSD DAC at last year's RMAF.

Audirvana Plus 1.3.9.9
Last May, I wrote about a pre- release beta given to me by Damien Plisson of Audirvana Plus. It was Damien’s creation of a music program that would support integer playback for OSX Lion/Mtn. Lion. Many of you will remember that OSX Snow Leopard supported native integer playback for many DACs.

Simple Design Sonore/exD DAC
The Sonore/exD DAC represents a group effort between Simple Design and exD. Exactly who did what, when and how is as relevant as knowing what DAC chip is inside any given DAC which is to say it matters as much or as little as you care to imagine since what really matters is how the finished product sounds.
