I'm Traveling
I've been on the road just about the entire month of October. First at Rocky Mountain Audio Festival and this past weekend I M.C.'d at Chad Kassem's 15th Annual Blues at The Crossroads Blues Festival held at his Blue Heaven Studios, a converted church. It was a blast and of course I again got to tour the pressing plant.

Rega Announces New RP8!
Rega late last week announced a new turntable, the RP8. Available mid-December, the RP8 features an improved plinth, platter and tonearm, the RB808. The new design features "dual brace" technology that is said to increase rigidity without added mass.

Quality Record Pressings Expands to Ten Presses by Year's End, More When Demand Warrants (Corrected Story)
I'm in Salina, Kansas this weekend M.C.-ing the Blue Heaven Studios' Masters 15th Annual Blues Masters at the Crossroads concerts. Last night's show, before a packed house, was memorable, as were the acoustics in the converted church aided by a deft sound reinforcement mix.

Replacement For Per Madsen's Rackit Record Storage System!
When Per Madsen decided to retire a few years ago, thousands of record collectors wished him well but with great sadness. One of the sturdiest, most attractive and convenient record storage systems would no longer be manufactured.

ORG To Reissue "Royal Gala Ballet" As Quadruple 45rpm Set
Originally issued as LDS6065 on RCA Soria, this legendary DECCA UK Kingsway Hall recording is easily one of the finest orchestral recordings of the golden age or any age. Ernest Ansermet conducts The Royal Opera House of Covent Garden Orchestra in ballet music by Adam, Delibes, Schumann, Chopin and of course Tchaikovsky.

Speakers Corner's Kai Seemann Responds to Legrand Review
Upon publication of the Legrand jazz I emailed Speakers Corner president Kai Seemann to let him know about it. He responded. This is a very interesting and ultimately confusing story we will stay on top of until all of the questions are answered but here's what he told me:

What happens when you gather thirty one jazz musicians including MIles Davis, John Coltrane, Herbie Mann, Phil Woods, Bill Evans, Paul Chambers, Ben Webster, Hank Jones, Art Farmer, Donald Byrd, Milt Hinton and many other jazz greats (including a baritone sax role for Teo Macero) in Columbia's iconic 30th Street Studio?

Meeting By the Potomac: Ry Cooder's "Election Special"
Arlo Guthrie is a registered Republican (though of the ultra-rare libertarian/progressive strain). That leaves Ry Cooder to carry on his dad's uncompromising protest song tradition and he does so with musical and lyrical conviction on this album aimed at the upcoming election that's no more likely to date than has "This Land is Your Land."

Mick And Keith Meet Their Maker! Muddy Waters -The Rolling Stones Live at The Checkerboard Lounge
This is crazy! Why did it take so long for this to be officially issued? Whatever. It's Muddy Waters and his band live in Chicago, 1981 at the tiny Checkerboard Lounge, with Mick, Keith, Ronnie and Stones pianist Ian Stewart in the audience. Oh, and Buddy Guy, Junior Wells and Lefty Dizz.

Analogplanet.com Editor Appears on Gary "Ba Ba Booey" Dell'Abate's Nerdist YouTube Show
Last week Howard Stern producer and proud tech geek Gary Dell'Abate interviewed me about vinyl via SKYPE. The show was published on line today. Unfortunately, because of time constraints, much of what I said had to be cut but I hope you think that what remains is still worthwhile. Of course the lossy compression turned my voice into tatters, but that's what lossy compression does. Tell your friends!

Ever Wonder What Happens To Your Turntable's Bearing If You Run It Without Oil?
This is what a bearing ends up looking like if it's run without oil (assuming it requires oil--not all bearings do). It's not pretty. The owner (who shall remain nameless) kept breaking and replacing the belt until a manufacturer's representative visited and found the problem. Just thought you'd like to see what happens.

Dear Analogplanet.com reader. In an effort to get the information about this set to you from as close to the source as possible, before posting anything about the set I spoke directly with an EMI executive who has been working on it for a few years now.
