'Fat King' Duelund Caps

Fat King Duelund

Duelund Coherent Audio CAST-PIO-Ag (Silver) Capacitors...

After the "unbelievable" success of the CAST-PIO-Cu (Copper) 630VDC caps, pcX decided (earlier this Spring) to take the next step (we'd like to thank many of our customers for encouraging us privately, to do so)…and make a massive "stocking" commitment for the nirvana of caps…the "legendary" Duelund CAST-PIO-Ag (Silver) 630VDC caps !

Offering everything the Duelund Cast Copper caps are renowned for - and then some (more overall detail and resolution; more precise imaging; a more open and airy top end; better ambience retrieval, etc.), these caps are usually so high in price, that only a few were sold per year. Typically, the price was 10 to 20 times higher than copper (remember, silver is $25 an ounce, versus $3 a lb. for copper)…but due to the large stocking order we placed with the factory, we have reduced this multiple to between 4 and 8 times….well within the reach of many dedicated audio aficionado's, in search of the holy grail in signal cap sonic quality. We have focussed our efforts on the four most popular coupling cap values - 0.1uf, 0.22uf, 0.47uf and 1.0uf…each of which is being received on or about June 5th, 14th, 21st and 28th…respectively.

These CAST-PIO silver caps used the very best European sourced "dead soft annealed 99.999% pure" silver foil for the electrode material, along with a twisted pair of 20 awg (net 17 awg) 99.999% pure solid-core silver lead out wires, per side (each leg). Frederik (of Duelund) has informed us that these silver foil caps have at least double the normal "soak (vacuum impregnation)" time, compared to the Copper caps….and there is considerably more hand assembly labour invested per cap, during their construction as well.

The construction builds on the foundation of our Virtual Stack Foil design but does so with the addition of a proprietary WPIO (Waxed Paper In Oil) dielectricum which necessitates several days of impregnation under high pressure. This creates a form with significantly improved damping properties compared to the already excellent Virtual Stack Foil capacitor giving a mechanical stability hitherto unheard of.
