Μόνο το βιογραφικό του σχεδιαστή και οι δημιουργίες (Macintosh MR77 & MR 78) του θα είναι η απάντηση και αποκατάσταση της αλήθειας.
Για όσους δεν γνωρίζουν ο αρχικός σχεδιαστής και δημιουργός του infinite slope crossover λέγεται Richard Modafferi και από το 1968 διατέλεσε ως senior engineer στη Macintosh Laboratories Inc.

Richard Modafferi Inventor and independent consultant to Audio Classics, Rich Modafferi has established himself as one of the world's foremost authorities on tuner and loudspeaker design and development. He holds Masters degrees in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from the NJ Institute of Technology. A Senior Engineer at McIntosh Laboratories from 1968-74, he designed the MR77 and MR78 tuners and the famous "Rimo" filter. The MR78 tuner has received world wide acclaim for its State of the Art performance. From 1974 to the present, Richard has been a self employed inventor at Modafferi Acoustical Systems, Inc. He has been granted a United States patent for Phase Shift Bass Loading and for the Infinite Slope Crossover. These patents are currently being licensed to Joseph Audio of White Plains NY for use in their speaker systems. Richard also serves as a writer, reviewer and test lab for Audio, Audio Critic, The Sensible Sound.

Thinking outside of the box led Richard Modafferi to make one.It is a speaker box so advanced that even after almost 30 years, it continues to bring recognition to its inventor.
This summer, the recognition was international.The speaker, a $20,000 "Pearl" manufactured by Joseph Audio of Long Island, won in the category of The Best Sound at Home Entertainment 2002 exhibition, which brings together the best in audio equipment worldwide.
Modafferi's speaker won last year as well.

Modafferi, a 64-year-old holdover from the hippie era, reminds one a little of Doc Brown from Back To The Future.Not only is his hair frosted and body lean, but he also shares an affinity for taking things apart.Growing up, everything from radios to toaster ovens got the scalpel.In the 1960s, he trained with the United States Olympic Cycling Team.A crash sidelined him for good.
"Which was one of the best things that happened to me," he said.That's when Modafferi decided to go back to school and earn a double master's in electrical engineering and computer science.He used his expertise on amplifiers at McIntosh Laboratories of Binghamton, until 1974.
Modafferi had always loved good music, and was by this time up for a challenge how to eliminate the interference between high, middle and low frequencies.In conventional speaker design, the three drivers woofers (for low sounds), midrange (for middle sounds) and tweeters (for high sounds) -- overlap into each other's frequency ranges, blurring the sound.In other words, the music should sound even better.
After six years of designing and 61 pages of mathematical computations, Modafferi had the answer.His invention, called "The Infinite Slope," isolates each frequency range for each driver, thus eliminating the overlap.No matter where you stand in a room, a rendition of Ave Maria performed by a church choir in New England sounds the same: like they were right in the room with you.
A similar thing happened in June when critics from Stereophile magazine listened to a Louis Armstrong LP on Modafferi's system.

Judges from a 13,000-person audience in New York City recognized the superb sound quality of the speakers created by Joseph Audio using Modafferi's patented "Infinite Slope" design.
Even so, Modaferri has had his share of naysayers."I've had hundreds of people tell me my invention can't work," he said, laughing."I don't care."
Modaferri shouldn't.After all, he can live comfortably off royalties from his patent. A pair of 4-foot-high wooden Pearls stands in a small room at Audio Classics where Modaferri restores antique McIntosh stereo equipment.They were the only ones there this month.
